TextFix v2.00

TextFix is a small utility to fix and convert text files to suit your needs. This version converts between platforms (PC/Mac/UNIX/Amiga), adjusts width (free or fixed), and removes 'quotes' (the '>' characters typically used in email responses).

Requirements:

Specifications:

Comments Ever copy a text file from a Macintosh to your PC and find that there are no line breaks? TextFix can take care of that.

Ever have a text file that you wanted to print out only to find that it doesn't fill your printer's margins? TextFix can take care of that.

Ever want to send an email message to someone else and feel that the numerous '>>>' quotes at the start of every line just looked terrible? TextFix can take care of that, too!

Basically, I've grown tired of taking care of these annoyances by hand, so I decided to make a program to do it for me. Here it is, TextFix v2.0.

TextFix (TF) has had several incarnations over the years on many platforms. Starting in 1987 as a simple QuickBASIC program to convert my text files between Apple ][ and IBM PC format, it has been rewritten numerous times because I've often found myself stuck with files that needed to be converted to whatever platform I was using. Now I've found a new problem, that of having files that are laden with 'reply quotes' or fixed widths that just plain annoy me. So, without further adieu, here it is. again.

The archive contains TWO versions, one 16-bit and one 32-bit program. The 16-bit is compiled for 8086 and standard MS-DOS, and should run on ANY x86 PC. The 32-bit version was compiled for Win32 and the Pentium CPU. The reason why I chose to compile it for the Pentium and not (say..) the 386/486 is that I've seen very few 95/NT machines running on less than a Pentium, and compiling for the Pentium makes a significant difference in efficiency. Sorry to those that this might actually effect.

Note also that TextFix is currently a COMMAND LINE UTILITY. That means NO fancy GUI; you have to run this from a DOS prompt. Eliminating the GUI means the program is MUCH smaller (the program isn't huge, so why should a GUI version make it several hundred kilobytes?) I may, however, write a GUI front end for it at some point, but for right now, I don't personally feel the need. If the product is supported via shareware registration, and enough requests for a GUI are logged, I'll do it. Please do note that using it from the command line is not that difficult.

THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY SUPPORTED
