Following Eyes: Jack-o-Lantern · Last updated 19 September 2026
This app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. It has no account, no login, and no network connection of any kind. It works fully in airplane mode.
The app uses the front-facing camera so the jack-o-lantern can turn its gaze toward people standing in front of the device. This is the app's entire purpose, and it is worth being exact about what happens to the camera feed:
The app saves two things, both of them yours and both stored only on this device:
Neither is ever transmitted anywhere, and neither is synced to iCloud or to any other service. The About screen inside the app has a button that erases both, and deleting the app removes them as well.
The app makes no network requests. There are no analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party software-development kits of any kind embedded in it. Nothing about your use of the app is sent to the developer or to anyone else.
While this app collects nothing, Apple—independently of the app—may share limited, aggregated, anonymized information with the developer through App Store Connect, such as download counts, aggregate usage statistics, and anonymized crash reports. This is provided by Apple, is not tied to your identity, and can be limited from your device under Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements. The developer does not receive, and cannot request, any camera data or personal information through this channel.
The app is designed to run unattended in a public setting, such as a doorstep on Halloween, where children may be in view of the camera. As described above, it detects only the presence and position of people; it does not identify anyone, and it records and transmits nothing. No information about any person, child or adult, is ever collected or retained.
